The February Closet: Outfits 1-3

To recap, my monthly closet series will feature 14 items, remixed into over a weeks' worth of outfits.  My goal with this year long series is to help you build a versatile, stylish closet full of items that you love to wear.    Each item is carefully picked to be both affordable, and relevant no matter what your age or occupation. The series runs every Monday, so be sure to check in for new outfits every week!  If you missed January, you can check out the entire monthly closet here.

For February I am focusing on incorporating lots of color, items that will transition from winter to spring, as well as transition from day to evening looks.  For the full closet, please refer to the introductory post here.

Today I am kicking off the first set of outfits by focusing on ways to remix one of my favorite pieces in the closet- the color blocked shirt dress!  I picked this dress for it's versatility, as well as the on-trend aspect of the bold black and white color combo, which is going to be big this spring.  In addition, black and white creates the perfect backdrop for the bright punchy colors in the closet!

1. Date Night Ready
For this look I paired the dress with the nude wedges, cinched the waist with the leopard skinny belt, and added the cobalt purse for a punch of color.  This is the perfect evening look: simple and sexy!

2. Weekend Ease
For the weekend,  I would throw the gingham top on (leaving it unbuttoned, sleeves rolled up a tad), add the ballet flats and the floral scarf. Easy and breezy, perfect for running around town.

3. Work Look
Styling this dress for work, I would add the classic cardigan on top (buttoned), layer the leopard belt over the cardigan for definition at the waist, and pair it with the nude wedges.  You can see how easy it would be to transition this look from work to a night out just by removing the cardigan!

Another way I would love to style this dress is with black leggings and the black boots from the January Closet.  A denim jacket would also look great layered over this dress, maybe paired with some brown moto or cowboy boots!

Items used in outfits 1-3:

dress/ purse/ leopard belt/ wedges/ gingham top/ floral scarf/ ballet flats/ cardigan/ bracelet

  2. I ordered the nude wedges yesterday. I have been looking off and on for awhile -- love the style, and can't beat the price or the reviews!

  3. I tried on the ON shirtdress, but it was too oversized for my frame. So instead, I will be recreating these looks with a black and white colourblocked skirt that has gone unworn since I bought it ... five years ago. Thank you for the inspiration!
