Planning For NYE: A Pajama Party!

I can't believe Christmas has come and gone and we are full-speed ahead to 2012.  We are all unfortunately battling a nasty virus right now and will more than likely be spending a quiet evening at home for NYE.  Pajama party here we come!
nye

No self-respecting pajama party is complete without some super fun pj's, and these have sweet little champagne bottles and glasses on them!  Perfect for New Year's!  On the menu will be a few yummy apps, and these champagne jello shots. How fun!  Pandora will do all the DJ work, we'll play a few board games and perhaps spend a bit of quiet time goal-setting and planning for 2012.  If we make it to midnight, we'll be sure to watch the ball drop in Times Square!

I hope you all have a wonderful and safe time ringing in the new year.  I'll be back on Monday in full force!

Happy Holidays...Be Back Soon

{Our Christmas card this year...personal info blocked out, sorry stalkers}

We're back from Disneyland and had an absolutely amazing time; it really was so magical!  Everything takes on more meaning when you have little ones to experience it with, I seriously have never enjoyed DLand so much.  Taking a few days off from the blog...I may pop in here and there, but otherwise I will see you in the New  Year.  Thank you so much for reading! oxo

Yay or Nay: Colored Fur

I've begun to see a crop of colored fur popping up in fashion scene lately, and I'm not quite sure how I feel about it.  On one hand I think it's kind of quirky and fun, and on the other all I can think about is The Muppets. What initially turned me onto the idea was this lovely photo from Zara:

Source: zara.com via Jackie on Pinterest

I thought, hmmm, now that's interesting.  Here's the thing: it helps that it's in one of my absolute favorite colors, and that it is on a stick thin model.  But can you imagine this walking down the street?  On an everyday Jane?

Here are a few of the items out there in the colored fur arena:

Sweet New Online Shop: C Wonder

I recently came upon this new online shop called C Wonder.   They have a great little selection of items that are all just perfect for gift giving (and for gifting yourself, of course).  Here are a few of my favorites from the site:

As you can see they have a bit of everything: stationary, home goods, clothes, jewelry, even a bike!  What's best is that the prices are all very reasonable.  There are 4 brick and mortar shops; three in New York and one in New Jersey.  Has anyone been?  They look so cute!

With a statement like "...created to deliver brightness to every corner of life..." what is not to love?

Guest Post: Maggie of Maggie Rose Interiors

Hi there, Sweeties! It's Maggie from Maggie Rose Interiors here to help Jackie keep y'all entertained while she takes a break for the holidays. Jackie and I go way back (here's us when she visited Seattle a few years ago):

Today I thought I'd share a client project that I recently finished up. Laura and her hubby have a bonus room that serves as an office, hangout spot, and guest room (with a pull-out couch). Their new house is much bigger than their starter-house and so their budget was on the petite size - they had a LOT of new furniture to buy for the more public rooms of the house. So I suggested some DIY's and ways to add personality and color without busting the budget.

Thanks for checking out my work, and if you want to read more (or hire me for e-decorating!) check out my site Maggie Rose Interiors. And happy holidays!

Thanks Maggie, for sharing your work!  Check out her original design board for the room here, as well as her custom tray DIY here.

Guest Post: Monday Morning {P}Inspirations with Jill of Good Life

Hello Sweetie Pie Style readers... I'm Jill of good life and Jackie and I go way back.  You know, like to 2009 or something.  We're blog buddies of the best variety and I like to think we're kindred spirits as well.  While she is living it up at Disney Land with her family this week I thought I would take over her blog for a day.

My favorite posts that Jackie does is her Monday Morning (P)inspirations.  It's a lovely way to start the week and Jackie always chooses the most inspiring images.  So while I'm running the show today I thought I would do a New Years (P)inspiration post.  Yes, we are all busy with Christmas right now... but in a week or so our thoughts will turn to a fresh year.  Here are some inspirations that I hope guide 2012 for me (and maybe you!?!).

We've been listening to Christmas music almost non-stop around here and one of the songs that has been stuck in my head is "Silver & Gold". Totally random, but man, it really gets in those recesses of the brain yo! So here is my ode to the ol' Silver & Gold (all for under $100)....

Winter Skin & Beauty Tips

Ahh, winter skin, where do I even begin?  I have dry skin on a usual basis, so once winter unleashes it's skin-damaging fury, it gets really bad.  My excema flares up on my hands and my knuckles crack and bleed.  Too much info? Sorry. I'm just trying to illustrate the point on my dire situation over here. Get a little sympathy maybe.  I've tried countless products and creams over the years, and I have to say that one of my tried-and-true go-to's is good ol' Vaseline.  A lot of other lotions burn my cracked skin when I put them on-even the ones labeled for sensitive skin.  Then the hydration only lasts a few minutes before I feel like I need to re-apply.  No thanks.  Vaseline glides on nice and smooth, doesn't burn and leaves my skin feeling hydrated for hours.  I was recently contacted to do a review of Vaseline products, in light of their new super cute mini-pots of Vaseline Lip Therapy.

They are the perfect size to pop in your purse!  I've been using mine like crazy, and my lips are pleasantly soft and moisturized.  They have also been a life-saver when I am out and about (especially in the shivering cold mornings dropping Natalie off at school) and I start to feel that bitter sting of my hands drying out.  I just rub a little on the sore spots and I get instant relief.

There are lots of other great uses for Vaseline as well, here are a few of my favorites:

-Turn lipsticks into glosses by mixing in some Vaseline
-Remove stubborn red lipstick by applying Vaseline to a cloth and rubbing your lips gently
-Exfoliate lips by applying Vaseline and then brushing with a toothbrush
-Tame eyebrows by applying Vaseline and brushing into place
-Use it to soothe your skin after plucking your eyebrows
-Mix with loose eye shadow to create a creamy blush
-Apply on feet and put on socks before bed to moisturize overnight
-Works great as a cuticle moisturizer
-Use a dab to smooth your ponytail for a sleek look
-Add a dab to ends of hair to help hide appearance of split-ends
-Create a body scrub by mixing sea salt with Vaseline
...the list goes on and on.

I'm all for a simple, inexpensive product with multiple uses!

Additionally, I was sent a sample of the new Q-tips Precision Tips:

I love me some Q-tips, and most definitely use them how you are advised not to-oh hello there eardrums!  Shh, don't tell.  But I also use them the way they advise, and I think this new precision tip is genius.  I have always soaked Q-tips in nail polish remover to help erase the mistakes of my at-home manicure (you'd be surprised at my lack of hand-eye coordination).  With these new Precision Tips my manicure is now, well, much more precise!  It gets much closer to my nail than original Q-tips did, so this is now in my manicure essentials.

Here are a few more great uses:

-Great for all makeup application
-Use to soften bright or too heavily applied makeup
-Fix makeup smudges by dipping tip in makeup remover, then on area you want to remove
-Great for creating the "smoky eye" look by smudging your eyeliner
-To soften lip liner, apply with a dot dot dash pattern, then use the Q-tip to blend
-Create on-the-go applications of eyeshadow: roll the Q-tip in your shadow, store in a baggie, then use when needed! Love this!
-Use to apply anti-wrinkle cream directly to creases (yeah, I'm in that category now, boo)

Yet another simple and inexpensive product with loads of handy uses.  What is also great is you can find both of these products easily at your local drug store, Target, Walmart, grocery store, etc.  No need to be running around to specialty shops or ordering online.  And you know me, if I can't get it at Target I seriously re-consider if I need it.  Ha!

So are you an avid Vaseline and Q-tip user?   What are your favorite tips?

I was provided with Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly, Vaseline® Lip Therapy Original®, Q-tips® Precision Tips™, a $25 gift card and information about the products by RocketXL. All opinions are 100% my own.

Monday Morning {P}Inspirations

Okay my peeps, are you ready for another week? I'm not quite sure I am, we had such a nice little holiday event filled weekend. Making some holiday crafts and a gingerbread house, driving around to see Christmas lights, a little shopping, a Christmas party where I had one too many gingerbread martinis...the works.  We won't be able to enjoy this much longer. Eek!  And next Monday we are off to Disneyland, I can't believe that it has come so fast.  I don't have any guest posts lined up for you, mainly because I was too lazy to coordinate all that, but I think what I may do is a little re-run week of some of my favorite past posts. I have four years to choose from you know! Let's get on with the show now shall we...

Well hello there little fur-lined hammock, nice to meet you.

Adore this entry vignette-look at all the layers! Console, bench and vintage looking trough, maybe? All filled with books. And the lanterns make such a statement.

I need this framed and in my house, although I could not find the original link. Wondering if it is from a vintage prinatbles site? TinEye failed me again, leading me only to a French wiki page. Ugh!

*UPDATE: I found a seller on etsy who has an 8X10 of this print for $22. Find it here.

If I had an open fireplace I would be all over this.

Have a sweet day!

Sweet Obsessions: Plaid + Fur

I posted an inspiration pic on how to style a vest in last week's post, and I couldn't get the plaid/fur combo off my mind (oh the silly little things that occupy my brain):

Holiday Gift Guide-The Guys

Alrighty folks, here is my shot at some fun things to get for guys.  I don't know, is shopping for guys as boring for you as it is for me??  I tried my best to find some interesting, gift-worthy items here, but after my husband peeped them he told me they weren't "mature enough" picks.  So, I guess keep these in mind for your teenage brother....

holiday gift guide-guys

1. "Strip Tea" coasters
Hahahahaaaa!  The end.

2. Ben Sherman Military Jacket
I like this because it's a bit different. Great color, great detailing, and is made of a unique coated cotton.

3. Night Smoke Soap
This just sounded bad ass.

4. Abe Lincoln Mug
Nothing beats a good dose of Honest Abe in the mornin'.

5. Power Saw Pizza Cutter
Cute!!

6. Leather Skull Keychain
This is from crewcuts, but I don't know any dudes who would even know what that meant, so I think you are safe.

7. WeWood Wooden Watch
It's wood! And it's a watch!

8. iPad Arcade Cabinet
You stick your iPad in here and it creates an old-school arcade game! Comes with a free Atari app. I kinda want one of these! Guess I need an iPad first though...

And if you want to know my husband's opinion on what a mature manly gift is: a good bottle of whiskey and something nice for his desk at work.  And there you have it.

Interior Infatuation: Gray Sofas

I've been whining and complaining about the poor state of our sofa for awhile now, and it's definitely come the time where we need to seriously start to look for a new one.  I was trying to hold out longer since we still have young kids and now a puppy, but it really can't hold up much longer.  You had a good run little sofa! 10 years to be exact.  I would say that is about the lifespan of a sofa for a family, right?!

After some consideration, we've come to the conclusion as to what we are looking for.  It needs to be a sectional, because the girls already fight over space on the sofa and neither one of them wants to sit in the "chair-and-a-half" for whatever reason (worst purchase ever-don't ever get one. Too small for two people, and apparently too big for one person because no one sits in it).  It needs to be relatively cheap-we're talking in the $1000 range, because we know this one will still be getting jacked up too (kiddos and puppy remember), preferably a removable slipcover, and of course comfy!  We haven't done a very exhaustive search yet, but this puppy from ikea seems to fill most of the requirements:

I just can't attest to how comfortable it is.  Any of you have experience with the Ektorp corner sofa?  Your input could potentially save me from the 2 hour drive I need to take to my nearest ikea just to sit on it.  I originally was thinking I wanted a white slip-covered sofa, but realistically I don't want to have to be washing the damn thing every weekend.  So this dark gray could definitely work.  I gathered up some inspirations on rooms with gray sofas because, well that's just what I do...

Source: google.com via Jackie on Pinterest

Pretty, right?  I think the gray can be both sophisticated and modern, masculine and feminine depending on how you style it.  I dig that.  So again, if you have had experience with the ikea sofa, I would super appreciate a comment on your thoughts.  And FYI, in dream world, my gray sofa would be this velvet beauty.
