Living Room Mood Board

I figure I would hit you up with two posts today since I slacked on Thursday.  I'm having such a hard time getting into a routine around here!  There has just been so much going on.  I look forward to things settling...umm, sometime next year I guess!  The holidays are going to be here before we know it. Then in January is Natalie's 6th birthday (OMGGGG, how do I have an almost 6 year old??) and my bestie's baby shower which I am helping plan.  So I guess I can look forward to thinks getting back to normal in February 2012!

So I mentioned how my new pillows have inspired a whole new living room look, so I whipped up a little mood board for some visual inspiration.

The colors in the pillow are really the whole catalyst for the room.  I pulled the olive green, plum, cobalt blue, olive green, burnt orange, gray and creamy white as my new color scheme.  Tons of colors right, but I think it will work!  And obviously some will be used in smaller doses than others.

The furniture I currently have in the room are dark brown wood, and they will be staying that way.  I still really love the color of the wood, so no need to change.  I would love to add a pair of these gorgeous gray leather chairs to flank the fireplace.  On my ultimate wish list is a Michelle Armas painting and this one picks up the colors perfectly and would look amazing hanging over my fireplace.  Lastly just add a few fun accessories like this cobalt lamp (although I would probably switch out the shade for a drum one) and this great Nate Berkus moroccan style lantern  for on top of my cedar chest.  My other idea is to paint the cedar chest itself in that beautiful cobalt color. That is something I am seriously considering.  I've always loved the look of one colorful piece of furniture in a room.  I'm not even going to get into the fact that we are in dire need of new sofas and flooring.  Our kids have managed to trash them in the past few years.  I'm trying to hold out until Kara is a bit older though, because she is still great at causing messes.  Just yesterday she smashed an entire banana into the carpet.  And I mean smashed and smeared across the whole room.  What is up with this kid?!

You may be thinking, but Jackie, you haven't even gotten your kitchen cabinets under control yet!  I know, I know.  I'm famous for jumping from one project to the next.  All it takes is a spark of inspiration and I am off running.  I'm also in the process of re-doing the girls' room (yet again) as well as the office, which needs major organization.  It's never-ending, but that is what makes it fun for me.  I think a home should be ever evolving, don't you?

  1. you work on house projects like I do... here and there and back again... I've been working on the office and living room (again) while the kitchen stands neglected. next up I have a project for our bedroom. It's more fun to bounce around I think!

  3. I love your bright color scheme. A cobalt blue cedar chest would be killer in a room like this! Can't wait to see where you take your ideas.

  4. What about DIYing your own painting for above the fireplace in a similar color scheme? You could do something abstract and cool like that painting for way cheaper!
