Spring brings with it the opportunity open up all those doors and windows and let the fresh air and sunshine in!  It's such a great feeling to air out the house after a long winter bundled up inside.  It really is the cheapest and easiest way to freshen up your home! I make it a point to open all my windows, front door and back sliding glass door every morning when I wake up if the weather permits.  It's a little ritual I have, and it makes me feel instantly energized and ready to take on the day.  Even when it is cold outside I open a few for several minutes to freshen up the air a bit.  I really hate a stuffy house.  There are actually quite a few other positive reasons you should let fresh air in your home, all of which I found via Natural Health Restored:

  • Helps increase the rate and quality of growth in both plants and animals.
  • Helps the airways of your lungs dilate more fully and improves the cleansing action of your lungs.
  • Helps to improve your heart rate, blood pressure, and metabolic rate.
  • Helps your immune system fight off disease more effectively.
  • Soothes your nerves.
  • Will help you sleep more soundly at night
  • Helps clear your mind and improve concentration
  • Alters brain levels of seratonin which helps improve your mood and promote a sense of hapiness and well being.
  • Helps your body get rid of impurities
  • Helps kill bacteria and viruses in the air thanks to its rich oxygen content.
  • Strengthens your immune system by supplying it with the oxygen that it needs.
Who knew all those benefits could come just from opening up those windows!  So go crack yours open peeps!  Here are a few other tips to help freshen your home and keep it smelling great:
  • Clean!  Haven't you noticed how fresh your house smells after a good cleaning? Vacuum, dust, mop, clean the counters, etc. and your house will be feeling supa dupa fresh.
  • Add houseplants.  They bring the outdoors in, and also help purify the air in your home. A win-win!
  • Along the same lines, have a bouquet of fresh flowers as often as possible.  The sight and scent will lift your spirits every time you pass them by.
  • Light candles.  Pick a favorite scent and stock up!  I like to keep the scent consistent throughout the house, so there are no battles of the scents going on.  You want to awaken your senses, not bombard them!
  • Purchase an indoor air purifier.  This is especially helpful for those with allergies (that's me and my whole family-poor girls inherited the allergy gene from their mama).

So there you have my ideas to help keep your house fresh and smelling great for Spring!
