Blogger Book Fair: Jessica of Lavender & Lilies

Jessica of the great blog Lavender & Lilies joins us today to share her book recommendations.  Jessica posts about interior design, fashion, recipes, and more all with a dose of humor and southern hospitality!  This post alone made me want to pack up and move to her neck of the woods.  Take it away Jessica!

Thanks so much to Jackie for having me here to discuss my favorite books.  I am super excited and I'm going to include a cookbook since they are my favorite.

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

By far my favorite book ever.  This is one of the few books I read in one day.  I absolutely love the innocence of the main character Susie and how that affects the way she views the world from heaven.

Bitter is the New Black  by Jen Lancaster

You know how some books you relate to a time in your life?  I relate this book to the worst three months of my life when I was studying for the bar exam.  It was an incredibly stressful time but every night I stopped studying at nine and read a chapter or two from this book that my sister recommended.  It was hilarious.  I laughed out loud, which I totally needed at that time.  Perfect book for anyone who loves to laugh.

When anyone asks me how I learned to cook, I say that Nigella Lawson did.  I bought this book as a newlywed because I married a man who likes to eat at home and I barely knew how to boil water.  I poured through this cookbook and taught myself how to cook.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

This is my favorite classic along with To Kill a Mockingbird. I love this story.

Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels

The love story that permeates the latter part of the story is gorgeous.  This is my favorite quote, which is directed from the main character to his child to be, "That through an open window, even in the middle of the city, the sea air of our marriage will find you.  I pray that one day in a room lit only by night snow, you will suddenly know how miraculous is your parents' love for each other."  I think this is one of the most gorgeous books ever.
And this sixth one is anticipatory.  Eat, Pray, Love

I am reading it now and I can already tell you that it will round out my top six books.

Thanks Jackie for having me!

Thank you Jessica for participating!  Fugitive Pieces is now high on my summer reading list just from that beautiful quote alone.
