Art For The Magazine Lover

Currently available on 20x200 are two paintings by Lauren DiCioccio. What immediately came to mind upon seeing them, was how the layout looked like that of a magazine or newspaper article. Upon further reading, I realized this was in fact the case, although even more literal than I originally thought. She used an actual page from a magazine as a template for each work:

"Fashion magazines are the source materials for my series color codification dot drawings. I make each piece on a sheet of frosted mylar laid over a magazine page. After assigning a color to every letter in the alphabet (numbers are in grayscale, 0=white and 9=black), I apply tiny dots of paint over every character on the page. Each drawing I make has a different color codification, and therefore a different palette. The resulting painting is a legible blur of dots in the form of the article’s layout — like a system of Braille for the color inclined."

Her thought processes behind these pieces are even more interesting:

"I make sculptures and paintings about my anticipatory nostalgia for obsolescing paper media objects. The softness of a read newspaper page and the glossy slickness of a fresh magazine page are sensations embedded in our physical memory — the familiarity of touching these objects allows a relationship to form in the process of consuming the information they provide. When these objects disappear from our culture and assume the homogeneous texture of a back-lit screen, I fear that some of our intimacy with the process of reading will fade."

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Shine Home

I am completely head-over-heels for this abode, belonging to Susan Ortiz of Shine Home. Since seeing the article featuring her home in the May '09 Sunset issue, (which I have read and re-read probably 20 times already) I've become obsessed with her "modern beach bohemian" style. A bit reminiscent of Tia Zoldan and everyone's favorite Pieces owner Lee Kleinhelter, no?

Loving this table setting styled by Susan Ortiz for InStyle magazine. Perfect for an outdoor summer soiree. Photo via Shine Home.

Shine Home also has an online shop full of home accessories, lamps and furniture available for purchase. I pretty much want one of everything.

Ask And Ye Shall Receive

So the other day I was thinking to myself "Remember that one article a long time ago in Cottage Living with the cute young girl who owned her own home, and painted it all these fun bold colors, and was pictured doing all these cute things like standing in the hallway talking on an old-fashioned phone, and lounging around on her bed with her furry little cat? Yeah, good times. Perhaps I could hunt it down in my Cottage Living archives?...Naaah, that would take way too much time and effort. Ooh, I wonder if any of the 10,000 blogs I follow have posted anything new in the last half hour? Better go check my google reader..."

That was basically my whole train of thought. The point of all this is, and I kid you not, is yesterday I got an email from myhomeideas.com declaring "Discover the cheapest makeover...Give any room a facelift with a fresh coat of paint!" and it used the photos from the exact article I was thinking about a few days prior. Crazy, creepy and cool right? I'm not sure what the design Gods are trying to tell me, but I'm listenin!

Vegas Recap Part II-The Wedding

I promised a recap of the wedding, so here are a few pics:

The ceremony was held at The Wynn in their outdoor wedding courtyard. Giant palm trees flanked the edges, a fountain trickled in the corner, and a sweeping view of the hotel could be seen in the background.

The reception was held at Daniel Boulud, a restaurant also at The Wynn. Here is a shot of the interior. It's a kind of wonky pic, but I wanted you guys to see the cool ceiling!

Here's a shot of my "Duo of Beef" meal. Yeah, we hit up Denny's later that evening.

The stunning cake.

Me & the Hubby with cheesy grins after a few glasses of vino.

Later that evening, the newly married couple treated guests to a VIP section at the club Blush. Here are BFF and me after our outfit change, ready to party hardy. I must admit, I felt rather fancy livin' it up VIP style in Vegas!

Try to ignore the shenanigans going on in the forefront of this pic, as the main purpose of posting this photo is so you can check out the cool lanterns hanging from the ceiling. Hmm, I guess I have a thing for interestingly decorated ceilings. Who knew?

Here's a small portion of the bevy of beverages offered when you order bottle service. Blame it on the al-al-al-al-al-alcohol.

I leave you with the pic I took while walking balk to our hotel (no, we did not stay at the Wynn, WAY too pricey for us!) at 4 in the morning.

Next installment will be of all the other random fun we had while in Vegas, which includes a bit of Wayne Brady and a filming of COPS. Intrigued?

Simplify: Tip #17

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense. ”

Dining Room du jour

What I love about saving all my interior inspirations over on my tumblr blog, is that I can quickly find patterns emerging from all the photos. I have definitely realized how I want my future dining room to look (for now anyway). Can you spot the common theme amongst these photos ?

On Motherhood

My Girlies
(Wow, I need a better scanner)

I was recently tagged by the lovely Paula of two ellie.

The question: What are five things you love about being a mom?

1. I am still a fairly new parent (my oldest is three, youngest almost a year) so I love that every. single. day. I learn something new about parenting and about my girls. I suppose that never changes though, huh?

2. I LOVE the silly things that Natalie comes up with. She is hilarious. The other day she was asking me a question about the moon, and I told her I didn't know and would have to find out for her. She responded with "Oh, are you going to look on the internet at moon.com?" I have no idea where she got this from and I was laughing for days.

3. I love how being a mom puts you back in touch with the simple pleasures in life, like swinging on a swing, chasing butterflies and wishing on dandelions.

4. I love that I now know the location of every bathroom in every store/restaurant/supermarket within a twenty mile radius of our home. Let's just say after Natalie was potty trained she found a new affinity for public restrooms.

5. I love seeing the differences in personality between my two girls. After I had Natalie I couldn't imagine what another child of ours would be like. I figured they would look and act exactly like her. Silly, right? Now that I have Kara, it opens up a whole new dimension to our family. Since day one Natalie has been feisty, determined, outgoing and full of energy. Kara is quiet, shy, sweet and full of smiles. They are both perfect in their own unique ways and I couldn't be prouder of the both of them.

Now, I am going to pass along the tag to my fellow fab mommy bloggers:

A Change'll Do You Good

Hello lovely blog readers! I wanted to let you know I have some changes up my sleeve for around my little corner of the blogosphere. I have had so many ideas swirling around in my head for quite some time that I never get around to doing, so I figured if I state my intentions here for all to see it will get my butt in gear.

Here are a few changes that you may be interested in:

1. Updating Links

If you link here, let me know! Don't be shy...I don't bite. I mean, even if I did, I wouldn't be able to through the computer anyway. I would love to add you to my "link love" list I want to create, but it won't be much of a list if I don't know you are out there! So take this opportunity to come out of lurkdom and introduce yourself!

2. Sponsors

I am taking a cue from Miss Aimee and would like to offer FREE ad space in my side bar for you lovely readers with businesses. I don't ever plan on charging either, so once you are in, you can relax. I won't be springing up any charges on you. All you would need to do is email me your graphic for me to use. I'm not very computer savvy, so it would have to already be the right size (whatever that may be) so that I don't have to fool around with it.

3. Comment Responses

I really appreciate the time that every one takes to leave me a quick little comment. I have made some wonderful friends this way, and am so thankful for that. In order to get more of a dialogue going with you all, I am going to begin responding to comments in the comment section. So just check the little box that says something like "email me future comments on this post" to be updated on my responses. Believe it or not, I had no idea people did this until recently. I always pondered on the best way to get back to people, and I think this would be the easiest way.

That is all for now, folks. Thanks for reading and let me know if you have any ideas/thoughts/opinions on things you would like to see around here. Let me know if there is more or less of something you would like to see me post about. I started this blog for me, with no intentions of anyone ever reading (as you can tell if you check out me earliest posts-wait, don't they are pretty embarassing) but it has evolved into something more than I could have ever imagined and now I blog not just for me, but for you lovelies as well!

Room Service

Have you guys checked out the offerings over at Room Service lately? Tons of goodies to be had. Here are a few I have my eye on:

Sure, my computer has the time on it, but it's not nearly as easy on the eyes as these beauties.

Perfect for storing little desk necessities like stamps, paper clips and the such

I think I pretty much need the blue zebra one. Reminds me of my favorite wallpapered hall.

This throw has my name written all over it.

Last but not least, a few lovely rugs for underfoot.
