A Homemade Halloween

So I decided that this is the year I am going to make Natalie & Kara's Halloween costumes. This is Natalie's third Halloween and it will be Kara's first.

For Natalie's first Halloween she was both a ladybug and a witch (because both Grandma's wanted to buy her her first costume):

Last year she was a lion:

I couldn't get her to put up the hood, which was the mane and looked sooo cute. (That's not our house in the back by the way. I know you were wondering. At least I would be, because I'm nosy like that. It was just a random house in the neighborhood we were Trick-or-treating in. )

This year I have been thinking Peacock. Well, lo and behold I get a Pottery Barn Kids catalog in the mail a few days ago, opened it up and found this:

A stinking peacock. Here I thought I was being original. But I'm still going to do it, I'm not letting the ol' PBK get me down. That headband is pretty groovy, maybe I will make one like it. They are selling the costume for $119. You can get the matching basket for $19. Seriously? What a rip off. I'll let you know the progress of mine and how much it ends up costing.

I'm still not sure what I am going to do for baby Kara. She will be 5 months old then, so it needs to be something cute but comfortable. Let me know if you have any ideas.

  1. Jackie your kids are adorable! I hope mine are as cute as yours :-) I love the peacock idea, & power to you for stickin' it to the man! For baby Kara my suggestion is minnie mouse! She was my favorite to be when I was little. I my mom just made me a red and white polka dot dress, took her eyeliner pencil to draw whiskers & made me a stretch headband with ears. :-)

  2. I just found your blog...your children are so adorable!!
My baby girl will be just shy of 5 months old on Halloween and I'm trying to come up with ideas for her costume. Love the pix of your kids in costume!
